Most homeowners are very motivated to keep their homes well-maintained because their home is a major investment that they have made.

But, those same homeowners might be causing damage to their home that they didn’t even know about.

Make sure that you and your family avoid all of these problems by following the right way to use your plumbing system:

  • Do not cut, screw, or nail in a wall if you don’t know what is in there. You could seriously damage plumbing in the wall. You could even puncture a pipe and find yourself dealing with severe water damage inside of a wall. This environment is the perfect breeding ground for mildew, mold, and pests.
  • Do not pour meat grease down the kitchen drain. Pour the used grease into an old can or jar instead of putting it down the drain. In fact, grease is the #1 cause of kitchen sink clogs. While the grease goes down the drain a liquid, when it gets into the drain and cools off – it turns into a solid and it catches all of the food particles and other solids that come down the drain behind it.
  • Do not use too many drain cleaning chemicals in your plumbing. These chemicals can be very enticing as their marketing makes some pretty big promises but, they are actually highly-corrosive to your plumbing system and can cause serious trouble
  • If you have a septic system, be very cautious about what you put into it. Your septic system is an important part of your plumbing system and also very delicate. The environment inside of the tank must be optimal for the system to work properly. There is a right and a wrong way to use your plumbing system. In fact, the wrong way can cause serious damage in the way of sewer line leaks and clogs, septic system malfunctions, clogged drains, leaking faucets, and burst water heater tanks.
