3 Common Plumbing Problems in Fall

With the changing weather and fallen leaves, summer has passed, and now is the time to prepare your home for fall. This includes checking your plumbing, which can quickly become an issue if neglected. Keep an eye out for the following three problems your plumbing system can face in the fall, as these will need to be fixed quickly if they arise.

1. Clogs Due to Leaves

As you may expect, fallen leaves can be a safety and plumbing nuisance. If leaves enter drains where water collects, this can quickly become problematic. Be sure you spend time throughout the season raking and disposing of fallen leaves. Leaves can also block debris from running downhill where it belongs.

2. Blocked Gutters

Your gutters are responsible for transporting water from your roof through a downspout in order to prevent damage to your home. If your gutters become clogged due to leaves or other debris, you risk significant damage to your roof, walls, and more. With the colder temperatures, this debris becomes more challenging to dispose of, and it can even freeze in certain conditions. Be sure to give your gutters a good clean every once in a while.

3. Burst Pipes

Burst pipes can be a plumber’s worst nightmare, as these are difficult to replace or repair. Ice can form inside pipes when the temperature drops, causing the pipe to expand and eventually burst. Take measures to insulate your pipes before the colder weather arrives, or have a qualified plumbing company assist you.
